Larry Soffer - Close up Magician, Mentalist, Mind Reader, Illusionist - Magic Shows, Metal Bending, Levitation, Mind Reading

Birth

Born on 25 October 1982 in Sea Point Cape Town, South Africa, Larry Soffer's dream of becoming a magician since the age of 5yrs has manifested itself.

He is convinced that his career choice was decided at a deep spiritual level rather than merely being inspired by magic shows he saw as a child. His grandparents supported his ambitions by buying him his first magic set in Israel. His parents accepted his unusual career without question and encouraged him to live his dream. The Soffer family are all very proud of his achievements.

When Larry was around 13 years old, his business partner/assistant, Gabriela drew information from a book she came across called, The Mysteries of the Universe, by Linda Goodman - according to a numerological deduction with letters of the Hebrew Kabbalah, his name and surname together means " The Magician". At a young tender age Larry was in awe of David Copperfield's charisma, showmanship and sensual mystical acts. Copperfield was a great inspiration and motivation for this young lad.

The College

Larry studied at the only College of Magic in the world in Cape Town, South Africa. At the age of 16, whilst in grade 11, Larry turned his magic performances into a thriving business, that he decided to take an extra subject at the Cape College Technikon and then became Entrepreneur of the Week, which was published in a newspaper called "Die Burger".

Whilst his destiny may have been pre-ordained, success is never achieved by simply waving a magic wand. With hard work and endurance his efforts paid off and he managed to earn quite a substantial amount of money to reach his goal of attending F.I.S.M (Federation International Societe de Magic) Magicians Convention which is held every three years in Europe attracting thousands of magicians around the globe. Despite having to divide his time between studying, practicing his skills and working, this young independent man shone at the College of Magic, winning all but one of his course competitions.

World Famous Magicians, Siegfried and Roy, Masters of the Impossible, were very impressed by Larry's talent and enthusiasm and awarded him a bursary for his final year of study at the College of Magic 'The SARMOTI Award'.

Whilst on holiday in 1999 in Las Vegas, Larry, his father, brother and Gabriela were personally honoured by Lance Burton with a complimentry entry to experience Lance Burton's magnificient stage show. "Lance Burton you are a Classic! You Rock! We loved all your performances. Thank You for making Russell disappear on stage and re-appear in the crowd."

Having Fun!

After graduation, Larry traveled to several countries across the world entertaining local & international celebs and notables such as Michael Johnson, Hootie & The Blow Fish, Luke Perry, Andy Macdowell, Ruby Wax, Mike & the Mechanics, New York Sax Maestro Ray Blue, Vinnie Jones, World famous Laser Artist Hiro Yamagata, Shermine Shahrivar - Miss Europe 2005, former SA President F.W.de Klerk, SA Finance Minister Trevor Manuel, SA Cricket & Rugby Team Members, Premiere Ebrahim Rasool, PJ Powers, Wilma of 7 de Laan, Sibusiso Vilane, Craig Port, Zuraida Jardine, Clarence Ford, Sam Marshall, Vanessa Carriera, Lee-Anne Liebenberg, the Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Harry, to mention a few...

Travelling

Larry takes magic into peoples lives and teaches them to unlock their own potential for constructive change, thus portraying the uniqueness of fellow humans in all walks of life. Larry aims to reach the masses all over the world and to "make a shift in their consiousness and belief". He has expanded his skills into the full corporate arena and employ the natural inner ability to break barriers. Larry's award winning magic has graced the shores of Taiwan, Lisbon, Israel, Zurich, The Seyschelles, USA and the UK.

Radio

His brand of magic which features mind reading, manipulation of matter such as spoon bending, moving objects and other feats sparked an interest for radio interviews. As a guest on several Radio Stations in SA, he has proved that he is capable of bending cutlery, getting stationery clocks to move through the frequency whilst chatting to the callers.

Larry explains,"These and other effects can be created by the mind, practicing mind effects are very different from drilling motions in front of a mirror. It is a practice of understanding and certain belief systems". He says, "The only way to create something is to believe in it first, this is called a postulate. You post the intention out there and then take the necessary actions to create the things you desire".

His Philosophy

Larry's philosophy is to be more like children. He says,"Believe to See, instead of Seeing to Believe".

What excites Larry is when people are entertained by the mind effects that he demonstrates and that they rediscover and believe in magic at the same time, often wanting to find out about the Universe and themselves.

Hightlight

Larry's highlight of his career was when Stan Gerson made a trip to South Africa and noted this extremely talented artist and also Larry's meeting with Don Wayne in Los Angeles.

Stan immediately knew that he had to get Larry to the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. He wanted the members of this Famous Mecca of Magic to witness what he had. In 2006, Larry was formerly invited to this World Famous Magic Academy which showcases the finest Magicians in the world.

The moment he arrived at the Castle, he was performing such mind boggling miracles for the members and guests that he was awarded a membership in the Academy of Magical Arts and asked to return in the future as a special guest performer.

Awarded the SARMOTI grant from World Famous Magicians Siegfried & Roy. Champion of many Provincial & National Magic Competitions in the categories of Close-up, Mentalism and Stage Manipulation.
